Background
Most developers who start using Iron Speed Designer typically start with the online training class and use the knowledge derived from that class to start developing applications. The online training class explains the basics of Iron Speed Designer and does not really introduce the developers to all of the functionality and techniques that are available for robust, enterprise-class application development. Generally, developers create a first application, and then follow the same model for all other development, thereby utilizing only a small portion of Iron Speed Designer's full potential. Furthermore, developers might also discount using Iron Speed Designer for more complex projects in the future due to the perception that it can only be used for simple application development, when nothing could be further from the truth!
Overview
To bridge this gap, Light Speed Solutions and ETLI are offering a two-day workshop for developers who would like to learn how to develop robust business applications with Iron Speed Designer. We feel that this workshop is unique, in that it not only teaches the basics of Iron Speed Designer development, but also incorporates more advanced techniques taught by Iron Speed MVP Consultants, who have built many different types of business applications, and are uniquely qualified in designing and developing systems using Iron Speed Designer. Time will be spent offering tips and techniques on how to properly design databases, provide robust user security, navigation, interfaces with existing systems, integrating with third-party controls, etc.
The first day of the workshop is structured as a "class room" session, to take the participants through topics that are important for a well-designed application. It is important to note that this session is not considered a "class", but more of a "brain storming session". Based on the requirements of the group, topics can be added or skipped as necessary.
Most of the second day of the workshop will be spent taking the students/developers through the process of developing one of their applications. We find that it is much easier for participants to relate to their own data model and use cases being turned into an Iron Speed Designer Application before their eyes. While we obviously do not have the time to completely develop an application with all of the “bells and whistles”, we can make a very good start toward creating their data model, creating some dialogs based on the developer's look and feel, and offering suggestions on how to utilize Iron Speed Designer in the best possible manner for their unique environment. Establishing a proper development infrastructure at a client can greatly enhance and streamline the entire development and maintenance process. We will also offer input on which third-party tools might work well for them, along with recommended code customizations, to generate a customized, maintainable application. Participants will leave the session with a much greater appreciation for all the possibilities of robust application development using Iron Speed Designer.
This session has the added advantage of allowing members to participate in design sessions for several different sets of requirements based on the mix of attending groups/developers. We find that having participants engage in several design sessions that are probably very different, and with different solutions for user interfaces, security and navigation models, and integration with existing systems exposes the audience to different development and user interface models that demonstrate the various capabilities of application development with Iron Speed Designer. For the most productive sessions, we would like to restrict the total number of people at these sessions to six or eight people from a maximum of three companies.
This workshop is offered at a cost of $995 per person.
